Background

Teresa is a plant community and disturbance ecologist, who is the Deputy Director of the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute. She came to ALWRI from PNW Research Station, where she spent 20 years as a Research Ecologist, Team Leader of the Boreal Ecology Team, and Forest Director for Bonanza Creek Experimental Forest. She has extensive research, service and leadership experience including serving as Co-PI on the Bonanza Creek Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Program, Acting Program Manager for the Ecosystems Process and Function Program at PNW Research Station, U.S. Representative on the International Boreal Ecology Association Leadership Council, and co-advising over 15 masters and PhD students. Scientifically, she is broadly interested in understanding environmental gradients associated with changes in species composition, vegetation change over time as it relates to succession, disturbance, and potential changes in climate. Teresa is committed to outreach and education as it relates to wilderness science and has also had the privilege of involvement in a variety of education and outreach programs, including a science camp for foster children and other kids in state care called “Fostering Science”, and a collaborative knowledge exchange with artists called “In a Time of Change”.
